Background: For years the City has struggled with the how to preserve and protect Moore's Cemetery with no real policies and procedures in place for those residents wishing to have their family members laid to rest in this cemetery.
Although the City receives very few requests for new burials, these policies and procedures will set forth the process by which staff will administer Moore's Cemetery.
This new Chapter in City's Code of Ordinances establishes guidance and applicable rules and regulations associated with the approximately 300 new burial plots and the perpetual care of the entire cemetery.
These rules and regulations were established based cemetery practices in place at numerous municipally owned cemeteries throughout Florida.
Local funeral homes have been provided a copy of these regulations to review and provide comments/suggestions. At 2nd Reading applicable edits will be incorporated.
The City Clerk will be responsible for maintaining all records pertaining to the occupied grave sites and the Public Works Director will administer the activities at the cemetery.
At the 2nd Reading, a corresponding Resolution will be placed on the City Commission Agenda that establishes a fee of $800.00 per plot with an additional fee of $200.00 for up to two (2) cremated remains to be placed on the same plot.
As noted in the attached photographs, a new fence has recently been installed around the entire parameter and a new entrance sign is expected within the next several weeks. Future plans, as funds become available, include additional tree trimming, a paved entrance driveway, and ten (10) parking spaces along Seville Street.
