ALTERNATIVE WATER SUPPLY FUNDING APPLICATION AUTHORIZATION (RC):

 

RESOLUTION No. 72-2019;  A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF STUART, FLORIDA AUTHORIZING THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT TO SUBMIT A GRANT APPLICATION FOR AN ALTERNATIVE WATER SUPPLY GRANT THROUGH THE SOUTH FLOTIDA WATER DISTRICT TO PROVIDE FUNDING FOR THE CITY’S ALTERNATIVE WATER SUPPLY PROJECT; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.



Summary Explanation/Background Information on Agenda Request:

Governor DeSantis and the Florida Legislature have recognized the importance of alternative water supply and the protection of Florida's natural systems by approving $40 million in funding during the 2019 legislative session for developing water supply and water resource development projects. The South Florida Water Management District is requesting applications for funding consideration for alternative water supply and water conservation projects within their 16-county service area. The application process opened on July 31, 2019 and closes August 16, 2019 at 6 pm.

 

The Public Works Department is requesting authorization to apply for a Alternative Water Supply Grant and  if successful present the Grant Agreement to the City Commission for review and consideration at a later date

The City's Alternative Water Supply project is a proactive plan to phase in reverse osmosis water treatment utilizing the Floridan Aquifer System as an alternative water source.



Funding Source:

Should the City be awarded a grant, City's matching funds would come from water availability fees and a Florida Department of Environmental Protection State Revolving Fund loan.

Recommended Action:

Approve Resolution No. 72-2019.
