During the preparation and adoption of the FY 2018 Budget, the City Commission had a number of discussions regarding various potential uses of the current public works site and the Sailfish Ballfield site. In December 2017, Lennar Homes presented an option to the Commission for redevelopment of the Sailfish Ball Park.
At the February 12, 2018 meeting the City commission approved Resolution R15-2018 which authorized a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for professional engineering and architectural services related to the relocation of Public Works. On April 9, 2018, the city commission approved Resolution R39-2018 which authorized a request for Developers Qualifications for the sale or long-term lease of the 10.75 acres of property from the Sailfish Ball Field and Public Works Complex. The RFDQ was issued on April 12, 2018 and was subsequently cancelled. On August 3, 2018, the city issued RFP 2018-204 with proposals due on September 12, 2018. The City received four proposals.
On November 26, 2018 the City Commission heard presentations from the two top ranked firms, New Urban Communities and Rich Properties. After some discussion and public input, the City Commission tabled this item for at least 90 days.
Two available options are:
- The City Commission can cancel RFP 2018-204.
- The City Commission can give direction to the City Manager to negotiate with the selected firm.
